Horns

Players will be required to play the first 8 measure of the Latin and Swing Etudes from the MOAJE All-State Jazz auditions (set 2), followed by the head and one chorus of C Blues- Now Hear This!. Trumpet players interested in playing lead and Trombone players interested in playing bass should submit two auditions.

Guitar/Piano/Vibes

Comping instruments will be asked to play the melody, improvise, and comp on C Blues- Now Hear This! for a total of 3 choruses, as well as the first 8 measure of the Latin and Swing Etudes from the MOAJE All-State Jazz auditions (set 2).

Bass

Bass players should be able to play the melody, improvise, and “walk” bass lines on C Blues- Now Hear This! for a total of 3 choruses, as well as the first 8 measure of the Latin and Swing Etudes from the MOAJE All-State Jazz auditions (set 2).

Drums

Drummers will be asked to play in the following format: play behind the melody on brushes, switch to sticks then improvise on C Blues- Now Hear This! for a total of 3 choruses. Drummers will also be asked to demonstrate the following styles:
Swing
Bossa Nova
Samba
Shuffle
Jazz Waltz
Funk
